However, I found that it was possible to connect to GTA online using betternet and once in session, disable betternet and at some point id get the "saving failed" error, so I reconnected betternet and after a few minutes, Id get a "SAVE SUCCESSFULL" (yes, in caps) in game and I could disconnect it again to make the game run without lagging.
